Hey! My name is Jeri-Lee Jones and I am the Student Minister that has been working in St. Paul’s International Pastoral Charge since October 2018. The last three months have flown by as I have tried and accomplished finding my feet here as a Minister. This role is so new to me. I appreciate all the wonderful comments I have heard from you, the congregation, as I grow into this position and become more confident serving you as a Minister.
I officially started the Designated Lay Ministry program in September and have since completed my first circle. The DLM program is a three year work experience program that has me working part time over the next three years within the church; while taking courses by distance and spending two weeks twice a year at St. Andrew’s College in Saskatoon. I have recently started taking the first of three complimentary courses that are mandatory as a part of the course, this course is ‘Hebrew Bible and UCCan Ministry’.
For those of you who are not familiar with me, I have been a member of St. Paul’s United Church since 2014. I have been involved in both Christian Education and the Leadership Committee as well as Twin Valley’s Presbytery since I became a member here. I completed my Licensed Lay Worship Leader program in 2017, and have provided pulpit supply within Estevan, North Portal and Portal over the last few years.
Over the last few months I have taken on Pastoral Care Visits and Hospital Visits which is brand new to me. In December I led the Advent Bible Study, and the Children’s Advent Afternoon. I am already looking forward to our Lent events that will soon be posted around the Church.
As a part of my Supervised Ministry education, I have a Lay Supervision Team that assists me as well as an Educational Supervisor. I have goals that I hope to accomplish that are reviewed frequently with the team that oversees me. My LST team consists of Joyce Klesse, Ardelle Kuchinka, Vivian Lindblad and Mike Little. My Education Supervisor is Barb Wilkins from Rocanville. The current learning goals I have are 1) Developing/Shaping my identity and authority as Minister 2) Finding comfort in providing worship services 3) Explore pastoral care methods to reach varied aged groups within the church 4) Learn about Church administration. If you have any questions about my Supervised Ministry Education process please feel free to chat with me or anyone on my LST team.
I am very excited to be working in Team Ministry with Rev. Jason Richards, and beyond grateful to have his guidance and patience as I learn the ‘ropes’ of Ministry.
Sincerely,
Jeri-Lee
