Why do we feel that this is an important initiative?
1. This is the “Get Going” part of our mission statement. This is a way to put our faith in action, to be visible in the community, and to be in relationship with our neighbors.
2. This ministry is in line with our new commitment to be a greener church. We believe our Creator has called us to be stewards of the earth. This is a great way to do it!
3. Through this ministry, we’ll help care for the least of these. Hundreds of families and individuals in Estevan use the Food Bank every month. By growing produce and donating it, we’re showing Christ’s love to those who are hungry in our city.
4. This is a great intergenerational ministry. Both children and our seniors (and everyone in between) can participate in this project. We’re hopeful that it will continue to bring us closer together as a faith community. If you’re a seasoned gardener, come and teach us what you know. If you’re new to it, come and learn from the pros!
What do we need?
Volunteers! Right now, the Leadership Team is looking for individuals to step forward as volunteers for this ministry, which may only require working at the garden once or twice this summer depending on scheduling. We’ll also need folks willing to be leaders on this initiative who can serve as contacts for the garden and organize the volunteers. They will be very well supported by the Leadership Team.
Please contact a member of the Leadership Team or myself for more information or to tell us you’re interested! I hope you’ll all be a part of this exciting opportunity.
